John McCain Takes the Low Road With Ahmadinejad as Monkey Tweet

John McCain took the low road today, comparing Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to a monkey on Twitter in an attempt to mock Ahmadinejad’s declaration that he would be willing to be the first Iranian sent into space.

Wow. Stay classy, John McCain.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Monday that he would like to see the implementation of high-tech border solutions — including drone aircraft — as part of a comprehensive immigration reform deal.

because what’s more comprehensive than drones when it comes to American politics…

Under a bill introduced this week in Arizona, hospital staffs would be compelled to check whether uninsured patients are in the country illegally.

because this state doesn’t have enough racial profiling as it is…

From the Think Progress piece “Arizona Governor Compares Undocumented Immigrants To Drunks And Children”:

BILL HEMMER (HOST): In June the White House announced a new plan if you were here in the U.S. before the age of 16, and you are younger than the age of 31, and you’ve been here at least five years, you can stay. That is the broad outline of his proposal passed over the summer. What you’re arguing is that the law of the land in Arizona if you’re illegal undocumented you don’t get the same rights as those who are legal, correct?

BREWER: The state is the one who licenses the people to be able to drive, it’s not the federal government. And we don’t license kids under 16. We don’t license DUI drivers. And our laws are very clear and I took an oath to uphold that.

Because being undocumented is the exact same thing as being a child and a drunk driver. And I am absolutely not surprised you’re being sued either, Brewer.

p.s. I had to fix Hemmer’s I-word bomb. Because Fox “News” insists on still using “illegal” to describe people’s humanity. Of course.

A coalition of civil rights groups filed a class action suit in federal court today, challenging Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer’s executive order denying drivers licenses to young undocumented immigrants granted work permits through President Obama’s deferred action program. The suit is latest in a line of legal challenged against the Arizona governor who’s made a name for herself as a supporter of anti-immigrant legislation and an opponent of the Obama administration.

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, which Pres. Obama issued in June, allows some young undocumented immigrants who came the country as children to stay in the country with authorization to work. In most states this authorization means recipients can also apply for driver’s licenses.

But on August 15, the day the federal government began accepting DACA applications, Gov. Brewer issued exec. order 2012-06, barring her state agencies from providing services or offering programs to recipients of deferred action. This includes the Arizona Department of Transportation, which now denies licenses to immigrants presenting DACA documents.

Jan Brewer is insufferably awful. Best of luck to American Civil Liberties, the National Immigrant Law Center, Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, the Arizona DREAM Act Coalition, and all of the undocumented youth who have filed against Arizona’s and Jan Brewer’s endless attempts to overstep federal law and ruin immigrants’ lives.

Some 631,000 ballots cast in Arizona have yet to be counted, Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett said in a statement Thursday. The number was 602,334 on Wednesday. Hanging in the balance are several hotly contested races, including Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s effort to hold onto his seat for a sixth term. In Maricopa County alone 459,000 uncounted early and provisional ballots surely could swing the race either way—as of Tuesday night Arpaio held a 90,000-vote lead over Democratic challenger Paul Penzone.

From the same ColorLines article:

Latino advocacy and immigrant rights organizations are particularly concerned, because it’s Latino voters who are more likely to vote early. And a disproportionately high number of uncounted provisional ballots came in from parts of the state like West and South Phoenix where Latino voters are concentrated and precincts near Arizona State University, where students tend to vote. The sheer number of provisional ballots raises concerns.

Is it a coincidence that Latinos’ and Student’s, groups who tend to vote Democrat over Republican, ballots haven’t been counted? Of course not. I don’t feel the tiniest bit guilty calling this electoral fraud

I am sad and disappointed. This man is a criminal, a bigot, and a disgusting human begin. None of you forget that. We deserve better, Arizona.

10 Worst Things Arizona’s Racist Sheriff Joe Arpaio Has Done

political-linguaphile:

  1. Forcing Women To Sleep In Their Own Menstrual Blood: In Arpaio’s jails, “female Latino LEP prisoners have been denied basic sanitary items. In some instances, female Latino LEP prisoners have been forced to remain with sheets or pants soiled from menstruation because of MCSO’s failure to ensure that detention officers provide language assistance in such circumstances.”
  2. Assaulting Pregnant Women: “[A]n MCSO officer stopped a Latina woman – a citizen of the United States and five months pregnant at the time – as she pulled into her driveway. After she exited her car, the officer then insisted that she sit on the hood of the car. When she refused, the officer grabbed her arms, pulled them behind her back, and slammed her, stomach first, into the vehicle three times. He then dragged her to the patrol car and shoved her into the backseat. He left her in the patrol car for approximately 30 minutes without air conditioning. The MCSO officer ultimately issued a citation for failure to provide identification.”
  3. Stalking Latino Women: “In another instance, during a crime suppression operation, two MCSO officers followed a Latina woman, a citizen of the United States, for a quarter of a mile to her home. The officers did not turn on their emergency lights, but insisted that the woman remain in her car when she attempted to exit the car and enter her home. The officers’ stated reasons for approaching the woman was a non-functioning license plate light. When the woman attempted to enter her home, the officers used force to take her to the ground, kneed her in the back, and handcuffed her. The woman was then taken to an MCSO substation, cited for ‘disorderly conduct,’ and returned home. The disorderly conduct citation was subsequently dismissed.”
  4. Criminalizing Being A Latino: “During raids, [Arpaio’s Criminal Enforcement Squad] typically seizes all Latinos present, whether they are listed on the warrant or not. For example, in one raid CES had a search warrant for 67 people, yet 109 people were detained. Fifty-nine people were arrested and 50 held for several hours before they were released. Those detained, but not on the warrant, were seized because they were Latino and present at the time of the raid. No legal justification existed for their detention.”
  5. 6. Ignoring Rape: Because of Arpaio’s obsessive focus on “low-level immigration offenses” his officers failed “to adequately respond to reports of sexual violence, including allegations of rape, sexual assault, and sexual abuse of girls.” (note* I skipped #5 because ignoring rape is much more gross to me than their listed #5)

And that’s just a few of the many inhumane and disgusting crimes Joe Arpaio has committed against immigrants, and in some cases,  U.S. citizens. Click here to read about his widespread use of racial slurs, racial profiling, random and unlawful detention of Latinos, among other atrocities Sheriff Joe Arpaio is responsible for.

Something for Maricopa county voters to keep in mind tomorrow.

truth-has-a-liberal-bias:

Jeff Flake of Arizona is another Republican Extremist that doesn’t belong in the U.S. Senate.

~~~
In the ad, Iraq War veteran Steven Lopez from Chandler, AZ makes it clear.  Jeff Flake is so extreme that he:
  • Voted to cut veterans benefits by billions
  • Was one of only twelve to vote against the new GI Bill
  • Was only one of three to vote against job training programs for veterans
Right now, Flake is in a tied race with Democratic candidate and Vietnam Veteran Richard Carmona.
After all the Radical Republican garbage that’s been spewing from Arizona for the last couple of years, it would be a sweet-sweet victory to send a Democrat to the Senate from Arizona.
Fellow Arizonans, remember to vote Democrat across the board this November. Let’s clean up our state please. It’s much needed.
